BeingRobotic has played a crucial role as a partner in the development of active aerodynamics for the internal combustion engine motorcycle at Polimi Motorcycle Factory. Active aerodynamics, a key element implemented in the prototype, has been instrumental in enhancing performance. It achieves this by improving braking performance, creating additional downforce to increase deceleration forces without relying on the tire, when activated. Polimi Motorcycle Factory spearheaded the development of the aerodynamic components, including CFD studies and prototype production. On the other hand, BeingRobotic specialized in the electrical control unit responsible for managing the actuator involved in the active aerodynamics system. The management of such a delicate project required meticulous attention to hardware details, incorporating features like redundancy and real-time controls.
The operational algorithm allows for the adjustment of the actuator positions located on the sides of the motorcycle based on the vehicle's state. During the straight braking phase, the actuators are fully opened to generate drag and downforce. Conversely, in trail braking, they can assist in the prototype's cornering entry with an asynchronous opening law. The same principle applies during corner exit, where asynchronous opening generates lateral force, aiding the rider in increasing the grip. The control unit receives information from the vehicle, processing and reinterpreting it to generate a sophisticated control strategy. This strategy adapts to various riding conditions, ensuring optimal performance during braking, cornering, and acceleration phases. The implementation of redundancy and real-time controls enhances the system's reliability and responsiveness.
